My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.
Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and to insight, “You are my relative.”
Proverbs 7:1-4 NIV
“Lord, please order my steps and put me on the Path of Righteousness.”
Every morning, I include this plea in my first prayer of the day, for I truly want to live my life according to how God wants me to live it. I am far from being like Job:
Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”
Job 1:8 NIV
I have to be constantly reminded that I am a child of God, so it is necessary for me to receive a word from our Lord on a daily basis. I do this by my version of reading scripture. The reason why I say it that way is that generally while on my way to work, or even before I get out of bed I turn to my iPhone app: Holy Bible – by YouVersion.
For at least the past five years I have followed The Bible in a Year program which gives me at least 1 or 2 Old Testament chapters, a New Testament chapter, and usually something from Proverbs and Psalms. This has developed into my daily devotion time.
I do this because like Proverbs 7:1 commands us, “store up my commands within you.” I have to know what is expected of me.
I believe God has made it clear by commanding us to “guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.” How is this possible without knowing what those teachings are? Sure we get some of it when we are graced by the words of our wonderful Pastor, but we must also take responsibility for our own learning by continuously reading the word of God.

Great advice for those who are always on the run. Technology gives us no excuse not to hear God’s word everyday as we are even on the go. Turn of the radio and turn on the Word. Thanks Elder.
Excellent word Elder Porter!
Great reminder that we must take responsibility for our own learning and using technology can help in this area. Great job baby.
Thanks Elder Porter for the reminder that there is literally no excuse from not hearing and studying God’s word daily. The Bible and technology is available.
Let the Church say “AMEN!”
Great job so true Reg
