A fool’s mouth is his destruction,
and his lips are the snare of his soul.
Proverbs 18:7 NKJV
Has someone ever come to you wanting to have a conversation about the latest news, a spiritual matter, or just life in general?
Perhaps you were engaged in a spiritual conversation that went something like this; “You know if people believed in GOD and had more faith and prayed, they could feel better about the problems and situations they face because they will know that GOD will supply all of their needs (Phil. 4:19 NKJV) and give them peace.”
That sounds promising and uplifting, right?
The conversation may have started out really good and you’re engaged and on the same page, then all of a sudden, the other person flips the script, becomes offended, loud, and disagreeable. Now it’s a shouting match about who’s right and who’s wrong. What started out as a wholesome conversation turned into foolishness and arguing. People who are listening (read: ear-hustling), or just walking by won’t recognize who’s the fool in the conversation.
“Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.” – Prov. 18:2 NLT
When you find yourself in uncomfortable conversations, don’t change or conform to please the fool, but “show them who you are”- a quote I like from Black Panther – which is by being loving and humble. God is Love, and “life and death are in the power of the tongue.” (Prov. 18:21 KJV)
Listen…
“Fools take a knife and stab people in the back. The wise take a knife, cut the cord, and free themselves from the fools.” – Unknown
We can spend our time wisely and get more wisdom or we can spend our time foolishly and miss opportunities to grow. How will you spend your time?
“Wisdom is not that hard to find but it can be hard to look for.” – Rick Warren
