Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
I Thessalonians 5: 16 – 18 NIV
AFTER DIVORCE
It was July 8, 2009. I had just arrived home from a Hawaiian girl’s trip. I yelled out being silly, “Honey, I’m Home!” There was no response. I had fun on the trip, but I really missed my husband. Again, I yelled out louder “Honey, I’m Home”. Still no answer.
In the haste to see my husband, I failed to notice both his vehicles were gone. Then I started looking around and noticed that furniture along with other items were missing. Then it hit me, my husband was not home. I ran upstairs to check just to be sure. There I found a note on the nightstand.
To summarize the letter contents: it stated that after 20 years of marriage, maybe it wasn’t for him. I walked back downstairs, looked around, and immediately started praying. I cried and felt so lost.
“In my distress I called to the Lord; I called out to my God. From his temple, he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.”
2 Samuel 22:7 NIV
How can we have thankful, contented hearts when the circumstances in our lives are not what we had planned and when they lie outside our control or our power to change? In my praying, I asked God to not let me become bitter. I knew that a life of bitterness gives the person that created the situation power over me. Who hasn’t faced disappointment and been tempted toward bitterness?
In the book of Ruth, there is Naomi, who struggled with a heart of grief that grew into bitterness.
“Don’t call me Naomi,” she told them. “Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter.”
Ruth 1:20 NIV
I felt anger, despair, pain, loneliness, anxiety, and peace at different times.
In this season of my life, I am enjoying the love of GOD and my family. I would love to remarry but I am content where God has me.
Prayer and meditating on God’s word brought me through. My advice to others is to do the same. Let go of all bitterness and resentment. Let God heal your heart before trying to get in another relationship.
It is God who makes life complete. Yes, we may long for love from a mate or just a companion. We often focus on our needs or desires instead of on GOD. It is God who is enough…
Find your happy place and be content. Is this easy? Absolutely NOT!!!
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will.
