And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
Genesis 1:9-13 NIV
The third day of God’s creation is catered to the separation of water under the heavens and dry ground, along with the production of plants and trees that bear fruits with seeds. To imagine that I serve a mighty God, who creatively took a blank canvas and formed it into a highly functional, detailed, and beautiful masterpiece, is awe-inspiring and breathtaking.
When I think of this story, I begin to wonder how the water, dry ground, and seed-bearing plants and trees must have felt to be used by God to fulfill His plan and purpose for the entirety of the Earth. My mind begins to personify the feelings, emotions, thoughts, and experiences of the seas, the land, and the vegetation.
With my imagination, I see the gorgeous, receding turquoise waters of the seas cheerfully and enthusiastically making way for their equally important counterpart, land. I visualize how amazing it must have felt for the seas and the land to be looked upon by God as something good that He created.
However, God was not finished yet. With the land now exposed and taking up 29% of the Earth’s surface, I imagine that the dry ground was hopeful to see how God was going to make use of its newly formed wide expanse. With a purpose and a plan in mind, God used the stretch of land to decoratively vegetate the dry ground with seed-bearing plants of its kind and trees that bore fruits with seeds of the same kind.
Again, I envision the uncontainable joy and satisfaction that each plant, tree, and seed planted by God must have felt when He proclaimed His unique design good. With a hard day’s work done, God allowed it to be evening then morning, thus completing the third day of creation.
Reflecting on the imaginative journey of the seas, land, and vegetation on the third day, I am truly encouraged that God has created an awesome role for me to play in His creation, what about you?

You painted the picture of the third day so vividly until I could hear the land, plant’s and tree’s all giving God praise! Makes me even more appreciative of the day when He created and formed me in His marvelous image.

This is beautiful. To think that what God created and formed was excited to be in the hands of the master craftsman makes me reflect on my own attitude towards his expert plan. Help me Lord to marvel and find joy in being a part of the masterpiece that is your creation.
