Worry weighs us down;
a cheerful word picks us up.Proverbs 12:25 MSG
It’s always something… House note, car note, insurance, medical bills, doctor visits, follow-up visits, personal projects, professional projects, honey-dos, insomnia, disappointment, self doubt, dread, tension. I could go on, but I think you get the picture. There is so much to be done, yet no matter how many things you finish something else always rises up and takes its place.
A once popular secular song says: “If it ain’t [sic] one thing, it’s another….”
We all find ourselves confronted daily with a multitude of things we feel must be done, things we feel that WE are responsible for. So we grab those “bricks” and we move into our day. Sometimes before any significant time has passed we find ourselves on the brink of what seems like the last straw. “If she says”… “If he does”… “If they ask me to do”… I like to call it “Popeye syndrome.” “I’ve had all I can stands and I can’t stands no more!” What else can happen? What else can go wrong?!
Maybe God is trying to tell us something. We must be attentive to what God is trying to teach us. God says: “trust me and relax”. Scripture reminds us in 2 Corinthians 5:7 to walk by faith, not by sight, but in our flesh we become burdened down by the carnal and temporary.. We get preoccupied with getting and keeping material things, and doing “things” so we can be happy. But, are we actually happy?
God loves us and tells us to cast our cares on him, but people who don’t know God’s plan AND trust Him are always worked up in anxiety, worry, and fear. (Bricks, bricks, and more bricks!) They complain, fuss, and worry themselves over trivial things. We must learn and believe God’s word, trust His plan and His process, and learn to “Keep the MAIN thing, the MAIN thing…”
Let’s leap by faith into God-reality, God-initiative, and God-provisions so that others might see HIM and hear HIM through us. Release your need to be in control, let God put a smile on your face and words of support and encouragement in your mouth, and DUMP THEM BRICKS!

Thank you Elder White for reminding me that “Bricks” aren’t meant to be carried.
Indeed that was a “cheerful” word.
Roy White says
Thanks Pastor as we all know “the struggle is real.” However, if we walk in HIS guidance and spirit dumping the bricks not just dropping but using our effort to “dump” them throw them off and leave them behind as we move forward, the journey becomes lighter and much less cumbersome…
Brian Hubbard says
Dump them bricks!!!
