Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Gen 3:1-7 NIV
Eve made a bad decision. She knew what God said, but she let a serpent whisper in her ear and change her thinking. The end was a little bit of a downer, seeing as we’re still paying for the consequences of this decision today, so I kept reading. The good news is, God didn’t leave her!
Until we are of age where we fully understand from right and wrong, we make the wrong choice at times. We make the wrong decisions because we think we know what’s best for us and we think God might need our help. (Spoiler alert: He doesn’t)
I have learned in recent years that there are serpents all around you (wearing people suits). Serpents also know all about God, but want you to ‘fall’ in your relationships, school work, job, and faith.
When Eve made that bad choice and realized it was bad, but God didn’t leave her. When we fall, God will indeed punish us, but he is still right there to show us love. He is with us through the good, bad, and ugly.
My Question to you: Who is whispering in your ear and having you to rethink God plans for your life? WATCH OUT for that serpent!!!
